Dear Dora:

Over the last year I’ve been increasingly attracted to a man. This should be good news: he’s funny and smart, with no current girlfriend or obvious horrible habits besides a tendency toward mood swings. The bad news is that we work together, and he doesn’t seem to notice my existence in a romantic context. Since I’ve gradually realized he’s known just about everyone else in our small town in this way—the man’s really gotten around—should I take his disinterest personally?

Dear Cora Sue:

Take it however you like, but take it and run for your life. There’s a slight chance he’s being professional, but it’s likelier his friendly dim bulb will eventually turn in your direction and cause all sorts of problems. A man who’s gotten to know most of a town (even a small one) needs to rent a U-Haul, go into counseling, or both!
